The Energy Division has said there will be no shortage of fuel oil in the country in April, assuring that supply remains stable despite concerns over demand and consumer behavior.
Joint Secretary of the Energy Division Monir Hossain Chowdhury made the remarks at a press conference on Thursday, while also urging citizens to use fuel judiciously during this period.
“This is a government of the people. Keeping the public in mind, the government has not increased fuel prices,” he said, adding that consumers should remain mindful of fuel conservation.
He said the country currently holds a total of 255,018 metric tons of fuel oil in stock. Of this, diesel accounts for the largest share at 122,660 metric tons. Other reserves include 9,378 metric tons of kerosene, 9,021 metric tons of octane, and 12,194 metric tons of petrol.
Fuel reserves also include 58,736 metric tons of furnace oil used in power generation and industrial sectors, 41,876 metric tons of jet fuel for aviation, and 1,153 metric tons of marine fuel for water transport.
Chowdhury noted that the country’s annual demand for diesel stands at 350,000 metric tons, while monthly demand for octane and petrol is around 70,000 metric tons.
“There is sufficient stock of petrol and octane. There is no shortage. There is also no shortage in the case of diesel. April is completely safe,” he said.
He further said panic buying has not yet stopped, which is affecting petrol pumps, and there is a tendency toward hoarding among consumers. However, fuel is being supplied according to regulations, and there is an adequate supply of refined fuel oil, he added.
