The government is making its best efforts to minimize power outages during the summer, but if load-shedding becomes inevitable, it will begin in Dhaka rather than rural areas, Power Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan has said.
Unlike in the past, if load-shedding happened, Dhaka city would be affected first, followed by other parts of the country, Fouzul told reporters at a briefing in the conference room of Bangladesh Railway’s East Zone headquarters in Chittagong, according to media reports.
The adviser also thanked the staff of the Power Division for ensuring uninterrupted electricity during the holy month of Ramadan.
He added that whether or not load-shedding occurred depended on several factors, particularly rising temperatures that drove up demand.
If air conditioners were set at 25 degrees Celsius, it could save 1,000 to 2,000 megawatts of electricity,” he said. “But many are not following this practice. Public awareness is crucial.”
