The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has not been increased at the consumer level for April, with the price of a 12-kilogram cylinder for this being kept unchanged at Tk1,450.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the decision on Sunday.
For autogas, the price has been slightly reduced — from Tk66.43 per litre to Tk66.41, a drop of 2 paisa.
Earlier, in March, the 12-kg LPG cylinder price was reduced by Tk28 — from Tk1,478 to Tk1,450.
According to BERC's new pricing, the per kilogram rate for private LPG cylinders, including VAT, remains at Tk120.81, the same as in March. Prices for various cylinder sizes will be calculated based on this rate.
Since April 2021, BERC has been adjusting LPG prices monthly. However, there are continued complaints that retailers do not sell LPG at fixed prices.
LPG is produced using two key imported ingredients: propane and butane.
These are sourced from different countries.
Each month, Saudi company Aramco publishes the international price of propane and butane, known as the Saudi Contract Price (CP). BERC uses this CP as a benchmark to adjust domestic LPG prices. It calculates the average USD exchange rate for the month based on the invoice prices from importing companies.
