Adviser to the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, announced that the government has saved Tk370 crore in the energy sector through public procurement in the past three months.
He made this statement on Saturday at a discussion on the energy crisis in the industrial sector, organized by the Bangladesh Chamber of Industries at the Westin Hotel in the capital.
Fouzul Kabir Khan emphasized that businesses can no longer thrive through close connections with the government, and that a favorable environment will be created for genuine entrepreneurs.
He also highlighted the need to move toward renewable energy, saying that tenders for 40 renewable energy projects will be issued later this week.
The adviser noted the lack of competition in the public sector and stressed the need to eliminate bribery in order to survive.
He called for the introduction of competition in government procurement.
