Update : 22 Nov 2024, 08:17 PM

Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Affairs Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan on Friday said that the government will float tenders for installation of 30-40 renewable energy projects next week.

"We can meet electricity demand during irrigation time, by installing renewable energy sources at open places and rooftop of buildings," he said at a meeting with officials of the northern region of Palli Bidyut Samity.

The adviser said: "LNG (liquefied natural gas) worth Tk6000 crore is imported annually. Installation of solar power projects can bring down the amount of LNG import and save foreign currency."

"We get sunlight for free, whereas the gas and coal have to be procured using foreign currency. I am urging the Rangpur Palli Bidyut Samity to implement a 200MW renewable energy project to increase power production in the country," he added.
