State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has officially announced Bhola's Ilisha-1 as the 29th gas field in Bangladesh.

He made the announcement at a press conference at 9am on Monday.

The state minister said that the new gas field is expected to have about 200 billion cubic feet of gas reserves.

“The market value of gas stored in Ilisha-1 is Tk6,500 crore, and if we consider the price of imported LNG, then the price will be Tk26,000 crore,” he said.

This is very happy news and good fortune. A total of about three TCF gas reserves are expected in Bhola, the state minister noted.

On April 28, the Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (Bapex) started experimental gas exploration from the ninth well of the Ilisha-1 gas field in Bhola.

The exploration was officially inaugurated under the management of Gazprom, a Russian majority state-owned multinational energy corporation.
