The government has decided to import 60MW of electricity from Tripura in India.
Currently, Bangladesh imports 100MW electricity at Tk6.40 per unit from the Paltana Power Plant in Tripura.
The additional imports will cost Tk6.31 per unit in 2017 and increase by 5% from 2018.

Mahfuzur Rahman, additional secretary of the Cabinet Division said the Cabinet had approved the proposal to make the purchase from India.
He said: “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina might inaugurate the power supply when she visits India during her visit.”
On April 21, 2016, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said Bangladesh will import around 2,000MW of electricity from India over the next few years.
