Prime minister to inaugurate 10 power projects

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate 10 power projects through video conference from her official residence Ganobhaban on Wednesday. Eight of these projects are newly built power generation plants which would supply 1375 megawatt (MW) electricity in total on full capacity. The two other projects are a newly built grid sub-station and a electricity transmission line. Besides, the prime minister will also officialise 100 percent electrification of 10 upazilas and introduce electrification at another upazila at the same programme. State minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid talked about the ceremony at a press conference held at Bidyut Bhaban in Dhaka on Tuesday. Five of these new plants were built by independent power producers. They are: a furnace oil based 55 MW plant in Manikganj, two 55 MW plants in Nababganj and Naryanganj, a 95 MW plant in Jamalpur and a 110 MW plant in Barisal. Three other plants are gas-based Shahjibazar 330 MW plant built by Power Development Board, 450 MW gas-based plant built by Ashuganj Power Station Company Ltd (APSCL) and duel fuel based 225 MW plant built by North-West Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL). Two other projects are a high-voltage 400 kV transmission line from Bibiyana-Kaliakoir under state-owned Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Limited (PGCB) and a 400/230/132 kV grid power substation in Kaliakoir under PGCB.
