Mohammad Hossain, director general of the Power Cell, and Soren Lovestead Christensen, head of study at Ramboll, signed the agreement in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Ramboll will prepare the 25-year master plan within six months, revising the existing master plan which was prepared by UK-based Wood Mackenzie in 2006. The project will be funded by the World Bank.
Hossain said the government wanted to bring the management of the gas sector under a new master plan, which is expected to constitute a medium-term plan for least-cost augmentation of supply and sustainable development of the country's gas sector.
The Power Cell will also finalise a new power master plan with financial and technical assistance from Jica.
