Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal mayor aspirant Md Shohidul Islam yesterday announced Awami League-backed Sayeed Khokon as the 14-party’s single mayoral candidate in Dhaka South City Corporation elections.
Shohidul, who is backed by Sammilito Nagorik Party, extended his support to Khokon after making the announcement at a press briefing at National Press Club where Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Abdur Razzak, Nazrul Islam Babu, Shirin Akhter and several others were present.
He described the 14-party as a platform in favour of the Liberation War, and called on voters to vote for Khokon.
“I cannot support the idea that a godfather and instigator of subversion will win the polls,” said Shohidul, hinting at BNP-backed mayoral candidate Mirza Abbas.
With Khokon’s endorsement, the 14-party alliance now has single mayoral candidates for Dhaka South City Corporation and Chittagong City Corporation.
“JSD-backed mayor aspirant Nader Chowdhury will contest the polls in Dhaka North,” JSD General Secretary Sharif Nurul Ambia told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.
