BNP has called a dawn-to-dusk nationwide hartal for Wednesday, protesting the attack on the motorcade of party chairperson Khaleda Zia.
However, the Dhaka and Chittagong City Corporations will remain out of the hartal purview.
BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed made the hartal announcement at a press briefing Monday evening.
The party will also hold protest rallies and bring out processions across the country, excluding Dhaka and Chittagong cities, in protest of the attack, he also announced.
Miscreants attacked the motorcade of BNP chief Khaleda Zia around 6pm on Monday while she was campaigning for her party-backed Dhaka North City Corporation mayoral candidate Tabith Awal, Khaleda’s press secretary Shairul Kabir Khan told the Dhaka Tribune.
Some 5-7 members of the Chairperson’s Security Force (CFS) were injured in the attack.
However, the BNP chief managed to leave the scene unhurt.
After escaping from the attack, Khaleda Zia started campaigning again in the area of BNP-backed Dhaka South City Corporation mayoral candidate Mirza Abbas at Shahjahanpur in Dhaka at 7:15pm.
Khaleda Zia was continuing campaigns for her party-backed mayoral aspirants for the third consecutive day.
Earlier in the day, Shairul claimed the police personnel deployed for the security of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in front of her Gulshan residence have been withdrawn.
He, however, could not say why the policemen were withdrawn.
