Mayor aspirants said they wanted to change the capital for the good and fix the negative image of the city.
“You will not see such a picture anymore if I win the election,” said Kazi Mohammad Shahidullah, mayor candidate of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), at the inaugural function of a photo exhibition at Drik Gallery in Dhaka yesterday evening.
The exhibition “Oprottashito Dhaka” displayed photos depicting sound pollution, unhygienic Dhaka, unsafe roads, traffic congestion, unplanned and untimed digging, unawareness about traffic rules, illegal vehicle parking on roads, and a photo series of a minor boy’s life in Dhaka titled “Life of Jibon.”
Almost all the mayoral and councilor candidates pledged to address such issues in their respective manifestos so far declared.
“Change is possible,” said Zonayed Saki, one of the mayoral candidates of DNCC.”
Mayoral candidate of south (DSCC) Moshiur Rahman said: “I have a mega plan to reduce traffic congestion in Dhaka city.”
The exhibition was organised by Volunteer for Bangladesh, the youth wing of JAAGO Foundation in association with Dhaka Tribune and The Daily Ittefaq.
