Chittagong BNP seeks army deployment in CCC polls

Update : 12 Apr 2015, 06:22 AM

The Chittagong unit of BNP has sought the deployment of the army during the city corporation election.

BNP’s city unit President Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury made the demand while addressing a press conference at his residence on Sunday morning.

The press conference was called in protest against the attack on their leaders during their campaigns.

Some Awami League men allegedly launched an attack on BNP leader Syed Wahidul Alam and his men in the city’s Sher Shah area when they went to inaugurate an election camp for M Manjur Alam on Saturday afternoon.

Referring to the attack, he said: “There is no way the election can be held properly without the deployment of the army."

He said the party had informed the Election Commission regarding the campaign started by three ministers before the due time, but no action was taken in this regard.
