Mayoral hopeful for Dhaka North City Corporation Annisul Huq yesterday said Khaleda Zia’s participation in polls campaign would mar the prospect for a level-playing field.
If BNP Chief Khaleda Zia takes part in the campaign will there be a level-playing field in the upcoming city polls?” Annisul questioned while exchanging views with journalists at Lotus Kamal Tower in Nikunja of the capital.
“I want Khaleda Zia and her party men to join the city corporation polls race to make it more meaningful and contesting,” he told reporters gathered at his election office.
He congratulated BNP for its participation in the city polls saying that nobody is negligible in an election. “Every candidate is strong.”
Annisul said all of his achievements had come through hard work of 25 years and he could not afford to lose them in five years of his mayoral period if he wins.
“I have just honoured the request of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. After the premier’s request, I myself too thought that we should do something to turn the capital into a livable city and I decided to stand in the election,” he said.
He also claimed that he got positive response from city dwellers for his candidature for the DNCC polls. “If the people of Dhaka North elected me as the DNCC mayor I will always try fulfill their expectations.”
Annisul was given table clock as his election symbol. He will announce his election manifesto today at his central election office in Nikunja.
