The Awami League has nominated AJM Nasir Uddin as its mayoral candidate for the election of Chittagong City Corporation.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the chief of the ruling party, took the decision in a meeting at Ganabhaban yesterday evening, the party’s Executive Council Member Saifuzzaman Chowdhury told the Dhaka Tribune.
Nasir is currently the general Secretary of Awami League’s Chittagong city unit.
The party’s Chittagong city unit President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, who was the CCC mayor for three consecutive terms, and Treasurer Abdus Salam, who is also the chairman of Chittagong Development Authority, were nomination aspirants from the party.
The Election Commission has fixed April 28 for holding the elections to bifurcated Dhaka and Chittagong city corporations.
The last date for submitting nomination papers is March 29.
