Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia must surrender before the court, or else the government will be compelled to arrest her.
Speaking at a press briefing in the Secretariat yesterday afternoon, he said: “If she [Khaleda] does not show respect towards the law and refuse to surrender, the government will be compelled to arrest her.
“Her place is not at the dialogue table anymore; rather, it is in Kashimpur jail as she has killed many people with the hartal and blockade programmes,” he said.
Ruling out Khaleda’s claim that a fresh election is the only solution to the current political crisis, Inu said there is no crisis in the country over election.
The government did not stop anyone from participating in the election, and it will not bar anyone in future as well, the minister said.
“We want to make it clear: no responsible government can allow this wanton destruction of lives, livelihoods and property just because one particular party remains out of power. The country needs peace to prosper and the government will do everything possible to make that happen,” he said.
