Petitions seek Khaleda's arrest warrant withdrawal

Update : 03 Mar 2015, 06:50 AM

The hearing on two petitions filed by BNP lawyer Sanaullah Mia, seeking the withdrawal of the arrest warrant issued against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, will be held on Wednesday.

Dhaka Special Judge’s Court 3 passed the order on Tuesday afternoon.

The hearing will be held at the Alia Madrasa grounds in Old Dhaka.

Earlier in the day, Sanaullah filed the petitions with the court.

Khaleda's lawyer told the Dhaka Tribune: “The BNP chief will not appear before the court on Wednesday in the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust cases for security reasons.”

On February 25, a Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant against Khaleda in two graft cases.

Later, another court on March 1 issued a search warrant for Khaleda’s Gulshan office where she has been residing since January 3.

The court issued the warrant to search the office for explosives and a communication device that police claim Khaleda is using to coordinate the countrywide sabotage.
