Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan has urged the government to remove BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office from the diplomatic zone.
The minister made the call while addressing a rally near Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in Dhaka on Monday.
The Somonnoy Parishad, led by Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, gathered near BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office to lay siege to it, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the blockade and hartal.
Hundreds of leaders and activists, under the banner of Sramik-Karmachari-Peshajibi-Muktijoddha Somonnoy Parishad, thronged at Road 90 of Gulshan 2 from 12:15pm on Monday.
Law enforcers were deployed in a two-layered security net in the area.
Earlier, the minister declared a series of programmes, including a march towards Khaleda's Gulshan office.
Meanwhile, the activists of Mohila League are also staging a demonstration near BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office demanding the same.
Police later withstood them by putting up barricades.
