Police have arrested three Jamaat-e-Islami leaders from separate places at Rajshahi city.
The arrestees are identified as Jamaat-e-Islami Shah Makhdum Thana unit organising secretary also teacher of Rajshahi Women Polytechnic Institute Jafirul Islam, 37, Nowhata municipal Jamaat Ameer Rafikul Islam Bakul, 50 and city unit leader Azizul Haque, 50.
Officer- in-Charge Mizanur Rahman of city’s Sahah Makhdum police station informed the Dhaka Tribune on Sunday.
A huge number of Jihadi books and documents of secret meetings also seized from their possession, he said.
The Jamaat men were involved in violence activities during the ongoing hartal and blockade called by BNP led 20-party alliance, OC Mizanur said.
Among the arrestees, Jafirul Islam and Azizul Haque sent to jail after producing before a Rajshahi chief metropolitan magistrate court in two cases and Rafikul Islam Bakul was taken to police custody for interrogation, the OC informed.
