A Jubo League member was beaten to death by unidentified miscreants in Rangunia upazila of Chittagong yesterday.
Md Jasim, 32, son of Awami League Rangunia upazila unit General Secretary Baby Chowdhury, was attacked by five to six men at Burir Dokan of Shantirhat in the upazila, said Nayek Jahangir Alam of Chittagong Medical College Hospital Police Outpost, quoting Baby Chowdhury.
He said the miscreants thrashed Jasim and beat his face with heavy metal weapons around 6pm, while he was drinking tea at a tea stall on the road.
Leaving Jasim critically injured, the miscreants fled the scene, said Nayek.
Md Osman, vice-president of Bangladesh Chhatra League Pomra union unit and uncle of Jasim, told the Dhaka Tribune that miscreants swooped on Jasim at a spot 5km away from his house in the Burir Dokan area.
Locals took him to CMCH, where he died around 7:30am.
Osman claimed the attack was led due to a political rivalry.
Rangunia police station Officer-in-Charge Humayun Kabir said they were investigating the matter.
