Barbed wire fencing put up at Khaleda’s office

Update : 08 Feb 2015, 07:13 PM

BNP officials yesterday put barbed wire fencing over the boundary walls of Party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office to ensure her security.

“The barbed wire fencing is to protect Khaleda. This security measure was taken to prevent miscreants from entering her office,” Syrul Kabir Khan, an official of the BNP chairperson’s press wing said to journalists.

Kabir alleged an outsider had tried to get inside the office by crossing the border wall, and a different person had made a similar attempt yesterday.

The BNP chairperson has been staying in her Gulshan office from January 3. She announced a nationwide blockade programme on January 5, after failing to leave her residence to join a rally, as her office was virtually confined with sand-laden trucks and police vans stationed outside. But the additional security was relaxed later.

Though there are no additional police in front of Khaleda’s office, a register is being kept of all who enter her office.

Since January 31, cable television connection to Khaleda’s office has been disconnected, and telephone and cell-phone connections are weak.

Meanwhile, BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed issued a press release urging the government to step down from office so as to save the nation and its people.

Ahmed alleged by disconnecting all communication mediums, Khaleda Zia was unofficially kept under “house arrest.”

“Finance Minister Muhith has finally said the situation outside the capital is very unstable … I want to call on him and his party to understand the situation and resign immediately to save the country and its people.”

Ahmed also alleged that, due to the president of FBCCI being partisan, the business community’s speeches have failed to reach the government.

“A political crisis and instability has been created due to the government leader’s mistake. Thus, to create a stable political situation, I advise the government to resolve the crisis. A representative parliament and government, established through an election under a non-partisan government, can assure stability,” he added.
