Law enforcement and intelligence agencies have identified sources of financial supports provided for carrying out attacks with petrol bombs, handmade bombs and gun powder during the ongoing blockade and hartal, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu has said.
“Preliminarily reports submitted by the law enforcement agencies and the intelligence units suggest that financiers of militant activities and ongoing violence are same,” Amu told reporters after an inter-ministerial meeting on law and order at the Home Ministry yesterday.
Also an Advisory Council member of the ruling Awami League, Amu, however, did not mention the names or organisations involved in financing the criminals during the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s anti-government movement.
The financiers would be exposed after the government gets complete reports from the agencies, he said adding that the incidents of sabotage and violence would stop when the financiers are apprehended.
Reporters expressed discontent as Amu ended the briefing in just one and a half minutes taking no question.
State Minister for Home Affairs Assaduzzaman Khan Kamal, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, secretaries and chiefs of law enforcement and intelligence agencies attended the meeting, which yesterday decided not to disclose the minutes before the media.
According to a meeting source, the heads of the law enforcement agencies complained that the public representatives had not been cooperating them by giving information about the arsonists in their areas. So they were collecting information about the attackers from their own sources.
In response, Amu told them that he would raise the issue in party forum.
