Update : 28 Jan 2015, 04:54 PM

A Shibir leader, who was injured in a crude bomb blast on January 21 in Chittagong city’s Kadamtali area, has succumbed to his injuries in Dhaka on Wednesday while undergoing treatment in a private hospital.

The deceased was Sakibul Islam, 25, a Degree (Fajil) first year student of Baitush Saraf Alia Madrasha and the Shathi (a post of Shibir) of the Madrasha, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Mohiuddin Selim of Kotwali police station.

He died in Apollo Hospitals in the capital early Wednesday while he was undergoing treatment at the hospital, said the OC.

After postmortem the dead body will be handed over to his family, added the police official.

The Shibir leader sustained splinter injuries in the right part in his face from a crude bomb blast during allegedly carrying the bomb for doing subversive activities on the 16thday of BNP-led-20-part alliance in Kadamtali area.

Police rescued the Shibir leader in critical condition and admitted him to CMCH for treatment from where he was shifted to Dhaka for better treatment, said police sources.

Later police filed a case in this connection accusing the Shibir leader under Explosive Act with Kotwali police station on the following day.

However, police detained nine persons of BNP-Jamaat conducting drives from the different parts of Chittagong for their alleged involvement with subversive acts, said police sources.

No inter-district bus left Chittagong for other destinations fearing attack on highway while train service was being operated behind the schedule due to blockade, said sources.

Escorted by highway police goods-laden trucks, covered-vans and petroleum-oil trucks were plying on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, said Highway police sources.
