At least 15 people were injured, including eight bullet-hit, when two factions of district Awami League and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) locked into a clash yesterday.
The bullet wounded persons were admitted to Ukhia Health Complex.
Police and local witnesses said a tea vendor Shamsul Alam’s son had an altercation with a client over a silly matter at Palongkhali station of Ukhia upazila around 5pm.
Later, the incident turned violent when a group of people led by former BCL president of the district Ali Ahmad exchanged fire with Awami League leader Zakir Hossain’s group.
Eight people from both the groups received bullet injury at the time.
They are Hafiz Zakir Hossain, 58, Nurul Bashir, 40, Tofael Ahmed, 32, Anwarul Islam, 36, Anwar Hossain, 55, Yusuf Ali, 27, Jafor Alam, 38, and Ismail, 26.
Acknowledging the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Ukhia police station Zahirul Islam Khan said extra police men were sent to the area, which was soon brought under control.
