Leaders of the 14-party alliance yesterday demanded that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia be arrested for inciting violence and sabotage.
The ruling alliance leaders at a rally in Mirpur ruled out any possibility of mid-term poll and dialogue with the BNP-led 20-party alliance. The rally was organised as part of the rulig alliance’s countrywide campaign to resist ongoing violence.
“I urged the government to arrest BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for fomenting violence, killing people and torching vehicles in the name of blockade and hartal,” Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya said.
Khaleda should also face trial for maligning the image of the country by staging diplomatic drama, he added.
Health Minister Mohammad Nasim said accused Khaleda of ordering her party men and the Jamaat-Shibir activists to resort to violence and secret attacks on innocent people. He said no dialogue and election would be held in the country before 2019.
Nasim said the ruling alliance would hold rallies in the next 10 days at different terminals in the capital to motivate people against violence.
Workers Party President and Civil Aviation Minister Rashed Khan Menon urged the BNP chief to shun the path of violence and sever ties with Jamaat if it really means any dialogue.
