The ruling Awami League has obtained a conditional permission from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to hold a rally at Shuhrawardy Udyan on Monday, according to TV reports.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League President, is expected to attend.
The decision comes within a week of the police banning rallies and processions in Dhaka as the BNP and Awami League were set to hold major events on Jan 5 marking one year of the national election.
