Detectives yesterday arrested Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, a vice-chairman of the BNP, from his residence in the capital.
Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed the arrest to the Dhaka Tribune.
A team of Detective Branch of Police (north) picked him up from his residence around 11:15pm.
He was later taken to the Mintoo Road DB headquarters for quizzing.
Asked about the charges on which the BNP leader was arrested, Masudur declined to make any further comment on the matter.
At the moment, several top leaders of the BNP are behind the bars on different charges while party Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been kept “confined” at her Gulshan office since January 3.
Party’s acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was arrested on Tuesday.
