‘11th national poll on scheduled time’

Update : 07 Jan 2015, 08:25 PM

Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, joint general secretary of ruling Awami League, yesterday said the 11th parliamentary election will be held on schedule in accordance with the constitution.

He also claimed that talks with all the political parties on the national poll will be held at that time if needed; before that, there is no scope for talks.

Talking to reporters at the Suhrawardy Udyan, Hanif urged the BNP chief to call off the blockade for the convenience of Ijtema-bound Muslims.

He also said: “An election cannot be held to fulfill the desire of an individual. The people of the country cannot pay the price of the mistake BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has committed by not taking part in the last national poll.”

In reply to a query, Hanif said: “We have announced programmes in observance of the Victory Day for Democracy on January 5 and Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day on January 10 a fortnight back. As a law-abiding party, Awami League withdrew its programmes of January 5 and got permission to hold public rally on January 10, Hanif said.
