Awami League Presidium Member and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim has said it is the duty of the government to protect BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in her helpless situation.

He made the statement while inaugurating a blood donation campaign to mark the 67th founding anniversary of Chhatra League at Dhaka University on Tuesday afternoon.

He said: “The leaders and activists of the BNP have left Khaleda Zia alone. It is the duty of the government to help her in her helpless situation, especially when she has for sought security.”

Nasim also termed boycotting national election as Khaleda's biggest mistake.

“She can resolve her mistake only by participating in the election in 2019 and by taking training from Awami League and its front organisations regarding movement,” he said.

Talking about criticising Bangabandhu, the minister said: “No country in the world criticises their father of the nation. Bangladesh is the only country where such things take place, Khaleda and her son Tarique has been defaming Bangabandhu repeatedly.

“Chhatra League has done it right by declaring movement against such deeds.”

The Awami League leader also thanked BCL for their movement.
