One killed in Rajshahi BNP-police clash

A man has been killed during clash between BNP leaders and workers and police at Baneshwar Bazar area on Dhaka-Rajshahi highway under Puthiya Upazila of the district Monday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Mazid, 34, son of Khoymuddin of Maria village under Charghat Upazila, reports BSS.

Quoting locals Moazzem Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Police, said a large number of BNP leaders and workers were staging demonstration at Baneshwar Bazar crossing by putting barricade on the road around 4.30pm.

When police rushed to the spot to clear off the road, the agitators hurled bombs, cocktails and brickbats towards police that forced them to open fire.

In the incident, Mazid received bullet wounds and succumbed to his injuries on the way to a local hospital, added the police official.

Police recovered four crude bombs from the spot.
