Gayeshwar sent to jail after remand

Update : 02 Jan 2015, 07:45 PM

A Dhaka court yesterday ordered to send BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy to jail after he was remanded for two days.

Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan passed the order when Sub-Inspector Bahauddin Faruki of the Detective Branch of Police, also the investigation officer of the case, produced Gayeshwar before the court.

Defence counsel Md Sanaullah Miah filed a bail petition but it was rejected by the court.

Earlier on December 30, another metropolitan magistrate granted two-day remand for Gayeshwar and three other BNP activists in a case filed under the Special Power Act with Turag police station for creating anarchy.

Three other BNP men – BNP’s Turag thana unit convenor Atiqur Rahman, party activist Mohiuddin Chowdhury and Mizanur Rahman – were also produced before the court and subsequently sent to jail.

On December 24, over 50 people were injured in the Bakshibazar clash that ensued just before BNP Chief Khaleda Zia appeared before a makeshift court at Bakshibazar in connection with Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.

Awami League lawmaker Chhabi Biswas came under attack by BNP men in front of the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital during the clash.

After picking up Gayeshwar Chandra Roy from a house at Siddheshwari on December 26, he was shown arrested in the case filed in connection with the attack on Chhabi Biswas.
