Relaxed hartal underway peacefully

Update : 01 Jan 2015, 02:30 AM

The countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal enforced by Jamaat-e-Islami is underway in a relaxed manner as most of the people are seen performing their daily jobs as usual.

The hartal began around 6am and would end at 5:30pm on Thursday.

Jamaat called the hartal protesting the death sentence awarded to its one of the top leader, ATM Azharul Islam, for war crimes.

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in the capital as well as different parts of the country since Tuesday evening.

They were seen patrolling in different strategic points of the capital along with the members of other law enforcement agencies.

The Islamic party's acting ameer Moqbul Ahmad announced the two-day countrywide shutdown for Wednesday and Thursday protesting the death sentence awarded to Azhar.
