BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has claimed that the ruling Awami League has broken its promise of arranging early elections, ignoring the repeated requests of the international community.
She said: “When we boycotted the January five election, the ruling party assured us that if we participate in the poll, they would arrange an early election as per our demand. But, later, they [AL policy maker] broke their promises and refused to arrange an early election.”
The BNP chief came up with the observation while addressing the media on the current political situation of the country.
The press meet is being held at her Gulshan party office on Wednesday evening.
Claiming that the international community has rejected the January 5 poll, Khaleda said: “The international organisations have also requested the illegal government to arrange an early election in order to uphold the democratic process of the country. They have rejected the current AL government as it dishonoured the global friends.”
