A complaint was filed against former state minister for housing and public works Abdul Mannan Khan with a Dhaka court yesterday allegedly for physical assault and attempted murder.
AB Siddique, president of pro-ruling party organisation Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, filed the case against Mannan and 40-50 others unnamed with the Dhaka’s Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.
According to the case, Mannan attended a Victory Day celebration at Joypara Pilot School in Dohar upazila, Dhaka on December 16, where he launched an attack with some 40-50 supporters as the presenter had not mentioned his name.
Mannan and his followers vandalised the stage, tore the banner that carried the image of Bangabandhu, and set off a crude bomb, the plaintiff alleged.
They also snatched Siddique’s gold chain and wrist watch.
Mannan also threatened lawmaker Salma Islam, who was chief guest at the programme, and Md Nurul Kabir Bhuiyan, upazila nirbahi officer of Dohar, another guest, and humiliated all the guests, Siddique stated in the complaint.
He named lawmaker Salma and nine others as witnesses in the case.
After recording the complainant’s statement, Senior Judicial Magistrate Nazmun Naher Nipu directed the OC (investigation) of Dohar police station to investigate the matter and submit a report before the court by February 20. The deadline was later rescheduled to January 20.
