Challenge to the threat posed by BNP leader Rizve, Awami League Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak has said they will see how BNP hinders their rally.
He made the statement in a press conference at the prime minister's Dhanmondi office on Monday.
BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Sunday said if the BNP is barred from holding a rally then the Awami League will not be allowed to hold a rally smoothly.
“Those who have been hurt by the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's son [Tarique Rahman] regarding Bangabandhu have foiled their programme, the Awami League did not foil it,” he said.
Talking about Rizvi's statement regarding hindering the Awami League's rally, Nanak said: “We do not want to hinder anyone's democratic programme. But if anyone tries to hinder ours, then we will see how they do it.”
When asked, if the Awami League was not hurt by Tarique's statement, Nanak said: “The Awami League was surely hurt by the statement and we had called a press conference to condemn it as well.”
Regarding the hartal, the Awami League leader said: “The main policy of BNP and Jamaat is to kill people. So, the public is resisting their hartal.”
“During their rule, they killed 26,000 leaders and activists in the name of operation clean heart and leaders like Ivy Rahman in the August 21 grenade attack.”
