At least 14,270 trees were cut down during the recent political demonstrations, including hartals and blockades enforced by the BNP-led alliance ahead of the January 5 election.
In response to a query, Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain also told the parliament yesterday that necessary action would be taken against the miscreants who felled the trees.
“Tress of the roads and highways, LGRD, city corporations, union parishads and several NGOs became victim to political activities last year,” said Awami League Lawmaker Habibur Rahman Molla.
As many as 142 cases were filed across the country in this connection, said the MP.
