20-party calls hartal for Monday

Update : 27 Dec 2014, 11:56 AM

The BNP-led 20 party has called 24 hours dawn-to-dusk shutdown across the country for Monday, protesting the denial of holding rally in Gazipur.

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement in a press conference at party chairperson Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office on Saturday afternoon.

The decision came after the alliance's secretary general level meeting.

The alliance has observed a dawn-to-dusk hartal on Saturday in Gazipur on the same issue.

Gazipur district administration has imposed an indefinite ban on all gatherings from 2pm on Friday until further notice.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was scheduled to hold a meeting at Bhawal Badr-e-Alam College ground on Saturday but Chhatra League also announced a rally on the same venue.

In such a situation section 144 was imposed.

The BNP alleged that the government has imposed section 144 in Gazipur as part of its planned conspiracy to foil the rally.
