Update : 25 Dec 2014, 09:31 AM

State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has claimed that Chhatra League activists were not involved in Wednesday’s clash at Bakshibazar.

“None of the persons locked in clash yesterday [Wednesday] are Chhatra League activist,” Kamal claimed.

The junior minister made the claim while talking to the reporters after visiting Netrakona-1 MP Chhabi Bishaws at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday afternoon.

“The BNP men created the anarchic situation on Wednesday to hamper the trial [of Khaleda Zia],” he said.

Kamal said: “They [BNP men] attacked our MP in a bid to kill him.”

On Wednesday, BNP leaders and activists clashed with Chhatra League activists near Bakshibazar makeshift court ahead of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s appearance in the court in two graft cases. At least 30 people including ruling party MP Chhabi Bishwas were injured in the clash.

Miscreants also torched a parked private car of Chhabi Bishwas MP during the clash.

Following the clash, two cases were filed against 150 leaders and activists of BNP and its youth and student wings on Wednesday night.
