Update : 23 Dec 2014, 08:29 PM

Dhaka City Awami League General Secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya yesterday the BNP-led alliance would not be allowed entering the capital on January 5, calling them “the enemies of democracy”.

“The alliance, led by Begum Khaleda Zia, are the enemies of democracy and they would not be allowed entering the capital on January 5,” he told a discussion, organised by Sheikh Russell Sangsad, at the party’s central office, marking the Victory Day, December 16.  Presided over by Sheikh Russell Sangsad Acting President Mohammad Hossain Mansur, the discussion was also addressed by City AL Office Secretary Sahidul Islam Milon and Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdul Haq Sabuj.

The minister for relief and disaster management urged the party leaders and activists to be alert to any BNP-Jamaat act of anarchy and resist them.

BNP chief Khaleda Zia had tried to hinder the trial of the war criminals by calling hartals again and again, he said, adding: “But she failed. Insha Allah, she would not be able to save the war criminals.”

The 20-party alliance, led by the BNP, are reportedly likely to hold public rallies in the capital on January 2 and 5 to mount pressure on the government to hold national election under a non-partisan government.
