Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud yesterday said BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman should be brought back to face trial for his derogatory remarks on historically settled issues of the country.
Tarique Rahman is resorting to falsehood on various historical facts to hatch a conspiracy against the country, he said.
The Awami League leader was addressing a discussion titled, “The present context-current politics,” organised by the Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote.
Hasan Mahmud said the government should take steps to bring Tarique Rahman back to face the number of defamation cases that have been filed against him for making derogatory remarks about the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“The people of the country expected BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to offer an apology for her son’s derogatory comments on Bangabandhu and different settled issues,” he said, adding: “The public was frustrated because Khaleda had supported Tarique’s remarks.”
