14-party leaders slam Khaleda, her son Tarique

Update : 19 Dec 2014, 07:01 PM

The ruling Awami League-led 14-party alliance leaders have strongly criticised BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for her recent remarks in which she asked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to watch her tongue and use decent words.

The 14-party leaders also vented their anger over BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman for his statement calling Bangabandhu a “razakar”.

The alliance leaders, at various programmes in the capital yesterday, slammed Khaleda and Tarique.

In one programme, Health Minister and Awami League Presidium Member Mohammed Nasim told Khaleda Zia and her son to hold their tongues.

“Speak like a politician and shun the path of conspiracy and militancy,” he warned.

President of Workers Party of Bangladesh and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon criticised Tarique for his slandering comments on Bangabandhu.

Menon was speaking at the national conference of Ganatantri Party at Mahanagar Natyamancha in the capital.

Tarique wants to create confusion in the minds of people by giving false and unacceptable statements, he said.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President and Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said: “Khaleda and her son Tarique were now plotting with militants and fundamentalists as they were politically defeated by the 14-party alliance.”

Food Minister Quamrul Islam said this time the BNP-Jamaat alliance would not be allowed to come on to the street in the name of agitation.

Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud said: “We hoped that Khaleda Zia would say sorry for her insane son Tarique’s statements against Bangabandh. But she (Khaleda) did not do that, rather she echoed her son’s view.”

“Khaleda Zia had deviated from decent politics,” he said.

He made the statement at a press conference on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s remarks in which she asked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to watch her tongue and use decent words.

On Thursday Khaleda Zia at a programme said: “Hold your tongue. The way you (Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina) are talking is unacceptable. A self-declared prime minister cannot speak like this...control your tongue and use decent language.”

On Wednesday the prime minister in a programme advised Khaleda to ask her “spoiled” son Tarique Rahman to watch his mouth while making statements.

Reacting to Khaleda’s remarks the ruling alliance leaders yesterday said they would tackle BNP politically.

The 14-party leaders vowed to hold national election in 2019 under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
