Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed has urged the Indian government to ratify the long-awaited Bangladesh-India Land Boundary Agreement.
He also emphasized removing barriers, including tariff, non-tariff, para-tariff, for reducing trade imbalance between Bangladesh and India, according to a release by the ministry, reports BSS.
The minister said this while formally inaugurating a 10-day India International Mega Trade Fair-2014 in Kolkata as the chief guest.
The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industries in Kolkata organised the trade fair. Ninety seven business establishments, including Export Promotion Bureau of Bangladesh (EPB), are participating in the show.
Tofail said the Indian government would have to take initiatives for creating scope of viewing Bangladeshi television channels in India as Bangladeshi people are enjoying Indian channels.
He said it is necessary to create a scope for entering Bangladeshi readymade garment in Indian market, because the Indian people prefer Bangladeshi products like other developed countries.
The minister also urged the Indian investors to invest in Bangladesh as skilled manpower is available in the country with 16 crore consumers.
"Border hat' has been established between Bangladesh and India to increase trade among the two countries," he added saying initiatives have been taken for removing trade barriers from the two countries.
