Awami League Advisory Council member Suranjit Sengupta has said the recent remarks of son of Quader Mollah, who was handed down with capital punishment for war crimes, over review of his father's verdict is tantamount to contempt of court.
The ruling party leader came up with the statement while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city on Friday, BSS reported.
"Quader Mollah's son said the Supreme Court killed his father. Such remarks were objectionable, similar to contempt of court and contradictory to the constitution," he said.
Terming the remarks of some BNP leaders on the Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) polls as unwarranted, Suranjit said: "As soon as the decision for holding of the polls to DCC has been announced, they [BNP leaders] said the polls had been announced to foil their movement. Then which way we should choose!
BNP should clear its stand whether it wants polls to DCC or not. The city dwellers want DCC polls whether Khaleda Zia wants or not."
