Update : 10 Dec 2014, 07:12 AM

A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant against BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman in a defamation case for calling Bangabandhu "Pakbandhu."

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ataul Hoque passed the order on Wednesday afternoon.

Md Monir Khan, an assistant secretary of the ruling Awami League’s central sub-committee, filed the case on November 17.

The complaint stated that Tarique had made derogatory remarks about Bangladesh’s founding president, also father of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, at a discussion in East London on November 7.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s son Tarique has been in London since September 11, 2008 on medical grounds after securing parole in various cases.

He faces 14 charges, of which four, including the August 21 grenade attack case, are on trial and the rest are stayed.
