Jubo Dal activist killed in Lakshmipur gunfight

A Jubo Dal activist has been killed in a gunfight with police at Latifpur village of Chandarganj union in Laksmipur Sadar upazila.

The deceased is Rony, 24, activist of Jubo Dal Sadar upazila (east) unit, resident of Deopara village of the union.

Police also recovered one revolver and twelve rounds of bullets from the scene.

Claiming Rony a criminal and an associate of local terrorist and listed criminal Jisan, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Sadar circle) Md Nasim Mia said we had conducted a drive in the area to arrest Jisan around 9pm on Monday.

“At that time police had a gunfight with them that lasted for two hours.”

During the time, Rony got injured by bullet and died on the spot, the official said.

Nasim said the corpse was sent to Lakshmipur Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy around 10:45pm.

Meanwhile, President of Jubo Dal Sadar upazila (east) unit Mohammad Ali Kiron said: “Rony was a committee member of the unit. Police detained him and later fired on his leg. After he had died they took him to the hospital.”

Moreover, the deceased’s father Maqbul Ahmad claimed that his son was not a member of Jisan's group.

He, however, alleged that Detective Branch (DB) of police picked his son up from Contactor pole gora area of Begumganj in Noakhali on Monday afternoon.

“They later took him to Lakshmipur and after visiting different areas of Chandrapur, they shot my son to death.”
