A Dhaka Court has deferred the charge framing hearing against 26 BNP leaders including its acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a case filed over hartal violence.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Tarek Moinul Islam Bhuiyan fixed December 24 for the next hearing following a time petition of the defence lawyer.
In the petition, defence lawyer Advocate Joinul Abedin Mesbah mentioned that their senior lawyers are busy as the recording of testimonies against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in two corruption cases is set to be held on Monday morning.
Among the 26 accused, 16 including Mirza Fakhrul, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Amanullah Aman appeared before the court on Monday, Advocate Joinul Abedin said.
He informed the court that other accused in the case could not appear because of illness.
In March 2, BNP-18 party alliance organised a rally and procession in Dhaka City. In this connection some unrest people from the rally indulged into vandalism and torched vehicle in Shantinagor and Malibagh area.
On that day seven cases were filed in different police stations under two acts. Two of the Paltan cases and the Shajahanpur case were filed under the Speedy Trial Act. On the other hand, two of the Ramna cases and two of the Paltan cases were filed under the Explosive Substance Act.
