Speakers at a programme urged activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the ruling Awami League (AL), to practice fair and constructive politics for the sake of country’s well-being.
The BCL has a glorious history in bringing independence to the country. But at present, the organisation is frequently involved in some controversial activities which brings shame to their party, speakers observed at the inauguration ceremony of ‘Clean Campus, Save Campus,’ drive on the Bangladesh Agriculture University (BAU) campus yesterday.
Following the direction of Sajeeb Wazed Joy, ICT advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the BCL is conducting cleanliness drives at different educational institutions across the country.
Vice-Chancellor of BAU Prof Md Rafiqul Haque was also present at the event. He said: “You [BCL men] should not forget your glorious past; work for the welfare of the people of the country as you did earlier.
“You have to remain conscious about intrusion of outsiders into the BCL as conspirators are still active to tarnish image of the organisation,” the BAU VC said.
He also suggested that BCL activists get involved in more constructive work rather being news headlines for wrong doings.
With BAU unit BCL President Md Mursheduzzaman Khan Babu in the chair, the programme was addressed among others by BAU Students’ Affairs Advisor Prof ZH Khandoker, BAU Registrar Md Abdul Khaleque, Proctor Prof Md Harun-ur Rashid and BCL BAU unit General Secretary Saiful Islam and Vice-President Bijoy Barman.
Later, BCL activists along with guests cleaned several points of the campus and placed plastic trash boxes for use.
