The main opposition Jatiya Party along with the independent lawmakers demanded arrest of the former minister and current MP Abdul Latif Siddique.
The lawmakers, in a point of order, made the proposal in the House on Monday.
They wanted to know the decision of Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury whether the parliament membership of Latif Siddique will remain or not.
They also sought the speaker’s decision regarding Latif’s arrest.
JaPa lawmaker Zia Uddin Bablu laid out the proposal before the parliament.
Moreover, SM Abul Kalam Azad of Bangladesh Nationalist Front wanted to know from the speaker whether Prime Minister, also Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina will speak on Latif.
On September 28, during a programme in the USA, Latif made derogatory comments on Hajj, Ijtema and PM’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy. Due to his derogatory comments, he was later dropped from the cabinet and the Awami League.
