Khaleda: Government is mad with thirst for blood

Update : 23 Nov 2014, 07:47 PM

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday said the ruling party had gone mad with bloodthirst, referring to the many killings that have taken place in the recent past.

“The Awami League has gone mad for blood and that is why they are killing people,” she said, adding that the desperation is so great that not only the ruling party men, but various government law enforcement agencies too had been involved with killings and abductions.

She warned the Awami League that it was not a positive sign. “The consequences of such actions would be serious,” she said at a meeting with the Gafargaon municipality Chhatra Dal leader Ibn Azad Kamal’s family members at her Gulshan office.

Kamal was killed allegedly by Awami League men on September 8. While condoling the family and financially supporting them, Khaleda said: “It seems that there is a government in the country, which runs without any law and order. Chhatra League criminals are roaming about with arms; the police have not taken any action against them. Universities and educational institutions have turned into a safe haven for criminals and students, even the teachers are not safe today.”

The BNP chief also alleged that there was no fair law prevailing in the country. The ruling party men were treated in one way while the BNP men were deprived of justice. “BNP leaders are jailed in false cases while convicted and sentenced Awami League people are released.”

She asked party leaders and activists to make preparations to wage movements, saying: “The people of the country and the BNP believe that the fascist government will be ousted through movements and democracy will return to the country.”
