MP’s meddling forces to halt Nachol AL council

Update : 20 Nov 2014, 07:36 PM

Despite having passed nine years, a triennial council of Nachol upazila unit Awami League has been postponed as a local lawmaker allegedly interfered to the matter.

The decision came from Chapainawabganj district unit General Secretary Mainuddin Mandol as per direction of the AL central committee.

Sources said the council was scheduled to be held on Monday, aiming to pick young activists and leaders for the party from the root level, where AL central executive committee member and President of Rajshahi city unit AL AHM Khairuzzaman Liton was supposed to attend as the chief guest.

When asked, Nachol upazila Chairman and general secretary of the upazila unit AL Abdul Quader acknowledged the meddling, saying the council was finally postponed due to meddling of Golam Mostafa Biswash, the party’s lawmaker from Chapainawabganj 2.

Quader also stated that the MP and President of the upazila unit AL Abu Bakkar Siddique have long wanted to pick up young activists selectively in the council, but they demanded the election method to ensure democratic practice inside the party to make a way for the qualified candidates. However, the lawmaker and the president could not be reached for their remarks in this regard despite repeated attempts.
